Last Friday's Game

Last Friday was the first two-booster buy-in week of the Secret Invasion. There are no pics, but here were the teams:

Ferru-Ms. Marvel, Yellowjacket, Lightspeed (I think Ms. Marvel was Skrull and Yellowjacket was non-Skrull)
Bill-Human Torch, Annihilus, Spider-Girl (honorable mention to sideline-bound Howard the Duck)
Jeff-Sharon Carter, Doom (249-point Mystic Doom, not F4 Starter Set Doom, obviously)

The games went as follows:

Game 1-Ferru vs. Jeff: Yellowjacket Outwitted Doom's defense and/or team ability and Ms. Marvel whacked him over the head early with a heavy object, which got me off to a bad start. I decided to try and Regenerate myself back to his good clicks, but it didn't work. Lightspeed distracted Sharon Carter until the heavy hitters finished Doom off and could cause her demise as a victory lap. Ferru won. Believe it or not, this fight lasted awhile because half of our attack rolls were fours.

Game 2-Ferru vs. Bill: Human Torch and Spider-Girl ran after Yellowjacket and Lightspeed while Ms. Marvel dragged Annihilus behind a wall and beat him into hamburger with just one or two attacks. A clever series of Pulse Waves allowed Human Torch to overcome Ferru's other two characters, but that just got Ms. Marvel angry, and she Hypersoniced over to this pile of objects Bill was trying to keep away from her during setup and started a series of hit-and-run attacks. Ferru won, and Howard the Duck was not pleased with his team's performance.

Game 3-Jeff vs. Bill: Doom hid behind a Stealthed Sharon Carter like the bastard he is, so Bill knocked her off the map in short order. Doom "focused" on Spider-Girl (and by "focused" I mean "Outwitted all of her powers and started in with the 4-damage attacks") and took her out while Annihilus and Human Torch couldn't roll high enough to get through Doom's defense. Doom then "focused" on Human Torch to make sure his Pulse Waves stopped being a threat and, incidentally, knocking him out. The process was repeated for Annihilus. I won and then spent the next twenty minutes wondering how I lost my game with Ferru because Doom has so much power packed into 249 pts. that he hums in a light breeze.

The prize for the week was an Illuminati event dial, a map, and a battlefield condition. Protip: If you glue about three or four battlefield conditions together, you bring them back to their original thickness.

Friday: Powered Core Event

Well, gentlemen, it's time to get back into the swing of things. This Friday is the Powered Core event, the warm-up for the Secret Invasion. The WizKids website has posted these rules:

Powered Core Format (all other standard rules will apply):
1) This is a 300 point Unrestricted event. Any HeroClix figure or Bystander token can be used, as well as standard objects.
2) All tactics are banned - Feats, BFC, Double-Base, Giant, & Colossal characters, Theme Teams, and Special Objects.
3) Special Powers and Traits have no effect.
4) Team abilities have no effect.

I think the idea here is to play a version of the game that's not too much more complicated than that presented with the Alpha rules. This way, new players introduced via the Alpha rules can get used to the non-Alpha rules. It doesn't look like new players are showing up this week according to the website, though, so the suggestion that we all bring in older figures to give to newer players...well, I'll bring in a Deadman figure or two, but I think I'll be going home with them, too. I notice this is one of the few opportunities to mix DC and Marvel and Indy figures in an official event.

Also, did anyone pick up the new rulebook?
